I made this custom sconce to commemmorate the wedding of two dear friends on Oahu, Hawaii, where the groom grew up. I collected seashells of varying size, shape, and color on the beaches of the North Shore. After 3D scanning them using an Artec Micro scanner, I digitally enlarged them and morphed them into “tiles.”
I experimented with parameters for PolyJet 3D printing to produce tiles that retained the texture and color of the original seashells, yet were translucent enough to produce a warm, sunset-esque glow when lit from behind.
