custom sconce to commemmorate the wedding of two dear friends on Oahu, Hawaii, where the groom grew up. I collected seashells of varying size, shape, and color on the beaches of the North Shore. Composed of a brewing chamber, gravity plate, lid, and drip tray, the phin filter brews coffee that is intensely flavorful and bold. Made entirely of stainless steel, the Cloud Phin is both a functional coffee brewing tool and a unique sculptural object. The embossed exterior features swirling clouds, dragon scales, and lotus leaves—motifs commonly found in Vietnamese art. Each of the four pieces is produced in pure 316L stainless steel via direct metal laser sintering, an additive manufacturing technology that uses a high-power laser to selectively melt particulate metal layer by layer to produce a 3D object. Once printed, I finish and polish each part by hand.
